Stephen Nolan has laughed off suggestions that he is enduring the holiday from hell in Florida after a series of tweets slamming the US hotspot.

The BBC presenter had given his fans back home the impression that his trip to Miami has been more nightmare than paradise, he even went so far as to slam the city - one of the world's most popular tourist destinations - and saying he will never return again.

A later post included a photo of Nolan looking fed up, accompanied with the message: "Now my hotel is being evacuated - I'll need a bloody holiday after this."

It prompted fears he had been caught up in tropical storm Hermine, which is currently pummelling the US east coast. However, it appears as though it was the broadcaster having a long-distance laugh at our expense.

Nolan's critique was a tongue-in-cheek response to a post by his long-suffering radio sidekick, Vinny Hurrell, who had enquired about his holiday on Twitter.

The message was accompanied by footage of a scene from sitcom Friends, where Ross Geller went for a spray tan, and the query: "Anyone heard from @StephenNolan & his Miami adventure? Is he OK? Just workin' on his tan?"

But speaking to the Belfast Telegraph yesterday, Nolan revealed: "I'm having a great time.

"I'm lying on the beach in sunny Key West. I'm enjoying myself."

Nolan followed up his comments with a series of reassuring tweets. In keeping with the banter of his recent posts, he bemoaned the amount of ice cream on offer. "Moved from dreadful Miami to beautiful Key West. It's stunning, but there's too much ice cream for a fat man!" he joked.

A second post showed a smiling Nolan posing in a straw hat and wearing a Miami Beach T-shirt.

The Radio 5 Live broadcaster and self-confessed workaholic rarely takes time off from his presenting duties - but when he does he tries to find time to travel to America. His preferred destination is sunny Santa Monica in California and he planned 15 trips to the States in 2015.

One of his journeys to the States last year was work-related, however, when he travelled to Las Vegas as part of a documentary looking at people's eating habits.

During the programme, which saw him visit the Heart Attack Grill, he admitted his passion for junk food was killing him.
