Is it time to trim the 'friend fat'? People encouraged to take part in 'unfriend day'
Who needs 3,000 Facebook friends? If you've ever thought about needing to purge your Facebook friends list today is your day.
Comedian Jimmy Kimmel has dubbed November 17 'National Unfriend Day (NUD)' and there is no reason people worldwide can't get on board.
The page says:
"NUD is the international day when all Facebook users shall protect the sacred nature of friendship by cutting out any ‘friend fat’ on their pages occupied by people who are not truly their friends. Get ready to unfriend!," the description of the new 'holiday' reads.
There are some handy litmus tests for deciding who gets to stay when you are, trimming the fat so to speak, including:

- If you wouldn’t invite them to your birthday party, unfriend them.
- If you wouldn’t cry if they got hit by a bus, unfriend them.
People needn't get hostile either organisers say, pointing out: "They might not like you much either".
The US host ran the same event last year and got some funny comments as to who people unfriended and why:
