How to celebrate your 100th birthday? Skydive, swim with sharks and top off with champagne, according to great-granny Georgina
A great-grandmother has hit the headlines after celebrating her milestone birthday in rather an unusual way.
South African Georgina Harwood celebrated her 100th birthday by skydiving in Cape Town.
Her family, who watched from the ground, greeted her on her return with a glass of champagne. She followed up the daring skydive by taking a casual swim with sharks on Monday.
Her great grandson accompanied her in the 'shark cage' dive.
"I'm so glad I did it," she told reporters. "I just can't compare it to anything else."
Harwoord requested that birthday presents be made in the form of donations to the National Sea Rescue Institute.
Speaking to the Institute, Harwood explained her decision. "What do you give an old lady? Chocolate? Whiskey? Scarves? I don't want them really".
Harwood has been skydiving for eight years, having undertaken her very first skydive at ninety-two years old.
