Medals, applause and a decontamination shower awaited this year’s Liffey Swim participants.

Dublin Fire Brigade shared images of the shower online as the swim got underway, saying: “After epic #LiffeySwim the swimmers have this de-contamination shower to look forward to.”

Dublin’s 97th annual Liffey Swim saw hundreds of swimmers descend on the river to take part in the race.

The 2.2 kilometre stretch had participants swim from Rory O’More Bridge near the Guinness storehouse to the Custom House on the other side of the city centre.

Dubliner Brian Murray from Eastern Bay Swimming Club took home the men’s win this year, while Jennifer Gilbert from Swim for Life carried the cup for the women by the end of the day.
