An image has been posted to Reddit Ireland which shows the amusing interpretation of the Irish sport.

The screen shot, submitted by Reddit user AlatarTheBlue, shows the publication referring to hurling as "a warlike game, played on foot with clubs".

In an interview with the Finance Minister Michael Noonan, the publication made reference to his hurling past. Brendan Greely, as US journalist, attempted to describe the sport to their US readers in the piece, which was published yesterday.

Hurling is defined as "an outdoor team game of ancient Gaelic and Irish origin", according to Wikipedia. The entry continues; "the game has prehistoric origins and is thought to be world's fastest field game in terms of game play".

"Fastest field game in terms of game play" would have been a much better description than "a warlike game, played... with clubs", although some Reddit commenters have pointed out "that's probably a pretty fair assessment of how it looks to an outsider."

Hurling was in the spotlight recently after this video of one Canadian trying to explain hurling to another went viral.
