An anonymous "road artist" has found a sure-fire way to get his local council to fix potholes in the road.

The artist began his campaign as he was fed up of the potholes around Bury, which he said were "there for months".

The campaign involves turning potholes into giant penises with chalk.

"Suddenly you draw something amusing around it, everyone sees it and it either gets reported or fixed."

He reports that the potholes he has drawn on were quickly fixed but Bury Council says they already had a plan in place to fix them.

A spokesperson for the council described the doodles as "obscene".

"The actions of this individual are not only stupid but incredibly insulting to local residents".

"Has this person, for just one second, considered how families with young children must feel when they are confronted with these obscene symbols as they walk to school?"
