1 Speaking of Galway, before the Arts Festival kicks off, we have the 26th Galway Film Fleadh (galwayfilmfleadh. com) to enjoy.

Starting on July 8, this six-day event is as much for the film-makers as the goers, with the likes of Fionnula Flanagan (left) in town for an acting masterclass and A History of Violence writer Josh Olson leading the screenwriting tutorial.

2 There are never enough salons. No, not beauty ones, but proper cultural salons, so I was delighted when Culture Vultures announced a monthly salon in Odessa on Dublin's Dame Court. Describing itself as a pop culture evening, the next one is on July 10. The line-up includes actor Liam Cunningham, comedian Fred Cooke and spoken word poet Erin Fornoff.

3 Giselle is one of the most celebrated of the romantic ballets and it will be pirouetting and arabesquing into the National Concert Hall tonight and tomorrow thanks to the Monica Loughman Ballet (nch.ie). This is the story of a peasant girl who falls in love with a deceiving count with tragic consequences. This is very much for all the family.
