Ian Rush will make a special on stage appearance, brandishing the Champion's League trophy in 'One Night in Istanbul' at the Gaeity Theatre tomorrow night.
Ian will attend the play with his Irish partner Carol Anthony, to celebrate the tenth anniversary of this momentous occasion for the club.
One Night in Istanbul centres around the night when Rafael Benitez’s team dramatically recovered from a three-goal half-time deficit.
It follows the story of scousers Tommy Kelly and Gerry Edwards in Istanbul as they hope their heroes will bring “big ears” back to its rightful home in Liverpool.
Their two sons, Jamie and Joseph, search for tickets in the hope of witnessing history in the making. A bag of money, Hitler’s cufflinks and a sexy Turkish chambermaid means it all kicks off in The Mamara Hotel.
Of Ian Rush's appearance, playwright Nicky Allt said, “It’s so special having the legendary Ian Rush guest appearing in one of the Dublin shows - Liverpool’s all time leading goalscorer! This show is close to my heart and I’m over the moon to have one of my heroes in attendance.”
Former Liverpool vice-captain Jamie Carragher has called the play "hilarious".
