She’s best known for playing a ballsy gangster moll in RTE’s gangland drama Love/Hate but actress Aoibhinn McGinnity’s latest role is much more family friendly.

The Monaghan native will play the lead role of Jovie in Elf the Musical when it hits the Bord Gais Energy stage this Christmas from 16 Dec-10th Jan.

Jovie was originally played by actress Zooey Deschanel in the 2003 comedy ELF staring Will Ferrell.

McGinnity has described the role as a “dream come true”.

“Musical theatre has been a huge passion of mine from a young age and I’m really looking forward to performing on The Bord Gais Energy Theatre stage,” she said.

“The fact that the show is coming from Broadway direct to Dublin is just phenomenal, and I can’t wait to spend Christmas on their stage!”

West End star Ben Forster will star as Buddy the Elf.
