Test your sporting knowledge - sign up for Beaufort quiz
Fancy yourself as a bit of a sports know all? Think you have what it takes to make accurate predictions on some of the year's major sporting events? If the answer is yes, then check out the 2019 Beaufort GAA Club's Sports Predication Quiz.
Launched in 2018, the quiz was a major success in its first year with nearly 1,000 entries registering with the club. Kerry ladies footballer Amy Foley finished with the most points, and she received a prize of €1,000.
It's a valuable fundraiser for the club that raised over €18,000 in its first year. It runs from the end of the spring until the autumn and incorporates over 30 different sporting categories across various events such as the Six Nations, Wimbledon and All-Ireland hurling and football championships.
In fact, it even takes in the local county football championships. People pick up extra points for thinking outside the box when it comes predications.
In other words, if you select the underdog in a competition and it wins, you accumulate more points than you would by backing the favourite.
Each month entrants will be informed of their points tally via email. Club members Colm Kelly and Danny Doona organised the competition, and anyone interested in taking part in 2019 can contact Beaufort GAA Club officials for an entry form. It's €20 per entry, and if people enter three times they get a special rate of €50.
"It's been a massive success for the club in terms of raising funds. This is very important today when trying to raise money. Every one fancies themselves when it comes to knowing about sports, and this competition offers a cross-section of sports. It's good fun," Colm said.
