Twitter reacts to the ridiculous amount of confetti drowning Ed Sheeran on X Factor

Several trees were seemingly harmed in the making of last night’s X Factor as never before seen levels of confetti were released from the ceiling completely obscuring Ed Sheeran from the audience.

The singer appeared on the show to perform his new single ‘Lay It All On Me’ with Rudimental but was surprised when ridiculous amounts of confetti poured from above as the song reached its peak.

The confetti downpour completely obscured Sheeran from the camera, so much so that it was difficult to see what was going on upon the X Factor stage.

In the minutes following the confetti’s release the singer could be seen removing pieces of paper from his hair, and even reached into his pants to free them of confetti.

Good-natured Sheeran also seemed overwhelmed by the sheer amounts of paper and asked presenter Olly Murs: “Who’s idea was this? Bad idea.”

Twitter users also seemed stunned by the questionable production decision.

“Well they’ve certainly upped the confetti budget,” tweeted Warren Braax.

Laura Parrish tweeted: “Feeling sorry for the poor intern who needs to sweep up all that confetti”

"Confetti must be half price or something this week," Meldin Odoom said.

Judges Simon Cowell, Cheryl Fernandez Versini, Rita Ora and Nick Grimshaw could be seen frolicking in the piles of paper accumulating upon their table.

Viewers also criticised producers for pre-recording Sheeran’s performance after they became suspicious that the confetti had been cleared up in the space of a four minute commercial break.

“Can the people who managed to clean all that confetti off the stage come and clean my bedroom for me. I'm not quite quick enough,” tweeted Hannah Tate.
