Zoe Ball

Zoe Ball is reportedly being lined up as the new host of Top Gear.

The former radio host (44) went in for screen testing in recent weeks and a show insider described her new role as a "certainty" after wowing producers.

"She was brilliant down on the race track and she's enthusiastic about cars," a source told the Sunday Mirror.

"She's a complete professional and of course has a long history of working with the BBC on radio and television so she has known Chris a long time. Things immediately clicked into place and there was a lightbulb moment among producers."

Chris Evans (49) is already confirmed as host and model Jodie Kidd was set to join the show before pulling out at the last minute, but show bosses are determined to hire a female face of the show.

Other names in the mix to round out the new presenting trio are Dermot O'Leary, who left The X Factor this year, Life on Mars actor Philip Glenister and motorcycle racer Guy Martin, who has already appeared on the show.

Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond are the outgoing hosts and are now fronting a lucrative three-season motoring show on Amazon Prime.
