Zig & Zag, famous for their stints on The Den and on The Big Breakfast on Channel 4, will make their TV return - in cartoon form.

The furry aliens will feature in 26 episodes of their own animated series set to air on RTÉjr next year.

The series is just one of several RTÉjr projects slated for release across TV, radio, and online platforms next year.

It is a joint project between RTÉjr and CBBC and will be completed in partnership with Double Z Enterprises, Flickerpix and Jam Media.

The series will see Zig and Zag arrive from Planet Zog and settle in the suburbs before exploring all that Earth has to offer.

Other projects include six episodes of Havanimal - each episode is a song about animals written by Shay Healy for his grandson Oisin some years ago.  The songs are performed by Duke Special.

Also, there will be 26 episodes of The Day Henry Met, in which the protagonist becomes something different in every show depending on who he meets.

RTÉjr Radio will have ten new episodes of Nora agus Dora 2, an educational series aimed at 3-7 year-olds in the Irish language, as well as 12 episodes of Fins, Scales and Fishy Tales.

The TV and radio slate will be complemented by RTÉjr free Apps.

Commenting on the announcement, RTÉ’s Cross-Divisional Head of Children’s Content Sheila de Courcy said“Supporting Irish animation is hugely important to RTÉ as we continue in our mission to offer fun, educational and uniquely Irish content to the under sevens.

"We’re delighted to see that viewing figures are on the increase and that children are engaging with our content on multiple platforms.

"Irish children are so digitally aware that we need to engage with them through apps, television, radio and online platforms, and constantly update and refresh our schedules on all platforms.”
