A Bord Gais serviceman who became a viral sensation this week when his photo appeared in an online advertisement has revealed that his 11-year-old son quickly brought him right back down to earth.

The company uploaded Liam Lyons mugshot with the caption, "Meet our service engineer Liam! Liam has been servicing boilers for 18 years. That’s over 20,000 boilers and at least 6,500 cups of tea. For expert boiler care you can trust."

Liam's appeal immediately won him an army of female and some male fans in Ireland with almost 500 taking to Facebook to log their appreciation.

Liam appeared on tonight's Late Late Show where he said the first he learned of this was when friends contacted him on messaging app Viber.

"I got on and saw a couple of comments which I won't say because my mam watches this show."

Host Ryan Tubridy went on to show some of the less racy comments.

Liam, who claimed he doesn't have Facebook, said he has seen the photo one or two times.

"I realised why my brother and my mates always call me fat head. They probably picked the worst photo out of the lot of them in fairness."

Asked how many boilers he services in a week, Liam responded around 40 to 50.

"I have done it a long time now so, I won't say it's a vocation, but it's a bit of craic."

He was joined in the studio by his wife Tina who was asked if Liam serviced the boiler at home.

"No he doesn't, not often enough,"she responded to laughs from the audience .

She went on to say that her husband "is gorgeous".

Asked how she felt about the comments, Tina said: "We were just having a laugh, it's very funny."

The couple have an 11-year-old son and Liam said: "His first question was you're not that good looking da."
