The season opener battles are over, but the X Factor v Strictly war has just begun...again.
After a steady downfall of viewers in the last two years, ITV's The X Factor lost out on more than one million viewers to rival BBC's Strictly Come Dancing for their season premiere episodes.
On Saturday night, Strictly returned to our screens with 8.7 million viewers, while Simon Cowell and co's premiere episode last week attracted just 7.5 million.
Last season, 9.5 million viewers tuned into the 11th season premiere, but this year marked the lowest season opener of the X Factor since 2006.
It comes after Cowell vowed to beat Strictly last week, saying: "If it's us versus Peter Andre, I'm going to put my money on us."
This year, Simon is joined by fan favourite Cheryl Fernandez Versini and new additions Rita Ora and Nick Grimshaw.
