When the great Irish dramatist Seán O’Casey moved to London in the mid-1920s, he is said to have felt more comfortable in the English capital as it was less intense than his native Dublin, then full of political tension.

Almost a century later, his great-granddaughter is sitting across from me saying something similar about Dublin offering respite from her native UK.
