'We could make a living just from our YouTube channel', reveals Donal Skehan
Celebrity chef Donal Skehan has revealed he could make a living from his YouTube alone.
The 29-year-old has fronted numerous television series both at home and abroad and has published a string of best-selling books but said he's focusing on expanding his business online.
Donal and his wife Sophie are moving to LA next month and are believed to be house-hunting in the Santa Monica area.
"We've still got quite a lot of work over here so we'll be back all the time," he told the Herald.
"We want to be there more permanently so we'll have the opportunity to do things over there.
"The online side of things is huge for us right now, we have over a quarter-of-a-million subscribers on YouTube now - it's really blown up for us.
"In the space of a year-and-a-half we've gone from 6,000 to 250,000 subscribers.
"Right now, you could make a living on YouTube alone with none of the TV or books, it's an amazing thing - we're not using it here in Ireland the way they are in the UK or the US.
"We've done some amazing things in Ireland and now it's time to do what we do to a wider audience.
"We've a few friends and my uncle lives out there so it won't be too lonely," he added.
On this side of the Atlantic his new book Fresh has been flying off the shelves and he's in talks for a new TV series in the UK.
"We have a few exciting things in the pipeline and we've a new series with the Food Network in the works," he said.
The couple walked down the aisle with their dog Max but said they won't be bringing him to California straight away.
"We're not bringing Max for the first little bit because I'm back over for the Irish series after about a month so he'll be with my mum and dad," he said.
