WATCH: Seth Meyers uses brilliant Conor McGregor analogy to explain Trump settlement
Myers said: "Twitter feuds may be fun but we need to pay attention to what Team Trump is really up to, because they want us to be distracted."
Seth Meyers warned Late Night viewers that Trump's feud with the Hamilton cast is meant to distract us from other controversial news and used a brilliant Conor McGregor analogy to make his point.
Over the weekend, Trump engaged in an online feud with the Broadway stars of Hamilton. The news was all over social media but it actually pushed several more damaging stories about the President-elect out of focus.
On Monday night, Late Night host Seth Meyers continued with his mission to keep Trump in check and examined these issues.
He claimed that the much-publicised feud is a way for Trump to keep the media's attention away from his business conflicts of interest. In particular, the news of the Trump University lawsuit settlement, which Trump bragged about on Sunday morning.
It was estimated than 5,000 people paid Donald Trump US$40 million to teach them his hard sell business tactics. The now defunct for-profit education venture drew complaints from students over price gouging and claims they were lured by "false promises".
The President-elect's lawyers reached a US$25 million settlement of three lawsuits over Trump University, which the President-elect declared a victory on Twitter on Sunday morning.
It was on this point that Meyers used Conor McGregor in an analogy to highlight how ridiculous it was for Trump to brag about the settlement.
