A Galway teenager has serenaded her idol Ellen De Generes on the actress and comedian's hugely popular US show.

Eimear O'Tuathail (17) describes herself as Ellen's 'biggest fan' and wrote a song, Hey Ellen, especially for her.

She was flown over to LA to be interviewed by Ellen and perform the song.

"I did cry when I met her but they cut it out!" she told RTE Entertainment.  "I ran up to her and I kinda get a bit emotional. I kinda forget what happened but I gave her a hug."

The episode aired in the US today and will be broadcast on ITV2 next week.

On the show, Eimear told Ellen she wanted to see a real palm tree, try 'really fancy drinks' at Starbucks and pick up EOS lip balm before she performed her song.

After her performance, Ellen gave Eimear several gifts including the pink drink from Starbucks and a basket of the lip balm as well as a cheque for $10,000 for college.
