There wasn't a dry eye in the house when three young children were reunited with their soldier father on the Late Late Toy Show after six months apart tonight.

The magic of Christmas was truly in the air when Sergeant Graham Burke made his family's dreams come true by returning home from a training mission in Mali,  just in time for the festive season.

His children Adam (8) and Kayla (6), who live near Midleton in Cork, were completely unaware that they would be seeing their father for the first time since September 14 and explained that he was working in the Africa country with our defence forces.

Adam told host Ryan Tubridy: "He can't watch the Toy Show because he's in Mali, training the soldiers.

"He's been there for six months but he's coming back in January and then I think he's going again for another month."

After showing off several of this year's must-have toys, Tubs had one more surprise for them.

As they went to unwrap a large box Graham jumped out, still clad in his army uniform.

Their mother Marie and younger sister Emily (4) joined them on-stage as the stunned children hugged their dad.

Graham, who us originally from Dublin and is  said: "I'm shaking, it's amazing to see them, it's just unreal."
