WATCH: BAFTA viewers brand Jennifer Lawrence 'rude' over her response to compliment from host Joanna Lumley
Some viewers of the televised BAFTAs on Sunday night were not impressed by Jennifer Lawrence's response to a compliment from host Joanna Lumley.
The show took place at the Royal Albert Hall with Lumley (71) taking over hosting duties from Stephen Fry for the first time.
For the very first award, Lumley introduced The Hunger Games star on stage to present the Outstanding British Film award (which ultimately went to Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri).
"And we start with the award for Outstanding British Film and who better to kick the whole evening off than the hottest actress on the planet," said Lumley.
"Soon to be seen in Red Sparrow, it’s the ravishing Jennifer Lawrence."
Lawrence came on stage and responded by saying, "Hi, that was a bit much, but thank you Joanna."
The British public was not impressed, at least many of those who commented on Twitter.
Ouch Jennifer Lawrence didn't appreciate being called 'the hottest actress' by Joanna Lumley did she? 🙈 #EEBAFTAs— Neeru Sharma (@NeeruSharma_) February 18, 2018

We must have watched the same thing but interpreted it differently. I have no opinion of Jennifer Lawrence, but you are clearly a fan and therefore biased, which is your absolute right. She was rude and ungracious to Joanna Lumley.— Sharon Radcliffe 🐝 I❤️MCR (@SharonLSlater) February 18, 2018
