Voice of Ireland star Helena Bradley Bates gives birth less than 24 hours after last live performance
She may have missed out on a place in next week's final of the Voice of Ireland, but Helena Bradley Bates' disappointment was soon forgotten as she gave birth to her fifth child yesterday afternoon.
Helena welcomed baby Ewan Bradley Bates at Wexford General Hospital, where he weighed in at 7lb 12oz.
The 41-year-old was on Kian Egan's team before leaving the competition on Sunday night and is the second contestant he's had who's been due a baby during the live shows.
Catherine Hughes had to leave the battle last year when she went into labour.
Helena was not due until May 4, but there was a team of paramedics backstage in case she went into early labour.
She has three older children - Dean (18), Ayla (16) and Callum (13) from a previous relationship as well as 15-month-old Ordhan with her partner Neil.
While Kian has no acts in the final, fellow coach Rachel has two up for the title.
The S Club 7 star said she is "over the moon" that Kieran McKillop and Sarah McTernan made it through.
"It is so exciting at this point and I was just so happy that I didn't have to make any decisions myself - last week, it was so hard to choose," she said.
"But it's out of our hands now and it's so nerve-racking because you never know how the public will vote."
She also revealed that the judges are set to perform together next week.
"We're going to do a little number. The song is a surprise and it'll be great to get up there and have a bit of craic," she told 2fm's Nicky Byrne.
