TV3 news anchor and reporter Claire Brock is moving to new station, UTV Ireland.

UTV Ireland had denied the move but TV3 have confirmed to the Herald that the 32-year-old broadcaster will join the new station, which launches January 1, 2015.

Claire (34), who lives in south Dublin with her former rugby player husband, Trevor, has been working at TV3 since she graduated in Journalism from DCU in 2002.

The news of her departure comes just a day after her TV3 colleague Sinead Desmond told the Irish Independent she believed a move to UTV Ireland would "be a step back" career-wise.

"It would feel like a step back. No offence to UTV Ireland, but they're not doing a huge amount of Irish programming," she said.

'They're putting their toe in the water, but, when you look at what TV3 is doing, I think it would be crazy for me to step away from that."

Claire will join Newstalk's Pat Kenny as part of the news team.

RTE has also lost an editor of the Six and Nine O'Clock news to UTV Ireland. Marcus Lehnen was one of three editors at the helm of the RTE news broadcasts for the past decade.
