TV3 reveal who will deliver its annual Christmas Day Message to the nation
Following on from its inaugural Christmas Day Message last year, TV3 will once again air a special address to the nation on Christmas Day.
Last year, Queen of Ireland Panti Bliss went head-to-head with the Queen of England for a special festive message on Christmas Day. And this year, TV3 have called on Ireland's 'royal' couple Daniel and Majella O'Donnell to deliver a very special message to viewers all over Ireland.
2016 was the year of Brexit, Trump, Aleppo, Black Live Matter and enormous and terrifying change. It will also be remembered as a year where we lost so many dear friends in the entertainment industry, and a year of surprising political change close to home, and of course further afield in the USA.
In their speech, the pair will reflect on the year gone by, and remember what is most important, as together we face into the great unknown that is 2017.
Speaking of the announcement Daniel said: “Majella and I were delighted to be asked to deliver TV3’s Christmas Message this year. We hope what we say reaches the hearts of everyone on one of the most special days of the year.”
Panti Bliss' rousing Queen of Ireland Christmas Message on TV3 beat The Queen's speech on BBC1 in terms of ratings.
Panti reached an average of 47,000 viewers while an average of 43,000 Irish viewers tuned in to watch The Queen on Christmas Day.
Both speeches went head to head at 3pm on their respective channels.
Panti's ten minute speech called on the nation to extend the impulse for change which preceded the Yes vote in the marriage referendum to other segments of society which require support.
Tune in to TV3 at 3pm on Christmas Day to see ‘Daniel and Majella’s Christmas Message.’
