TV3 and Focus Ireland break Guinness World Records with homeless fundraising campaign
TV3 and charity Focus Ireland have broken Guinness World Records with their fundraising campaign for homelessness.
Yesterday, TV3 invited the general public to take part in a major fundraising initiative, which was broadcast on Ireland AM, Midday, The 12.30 and 5.30 shows, and Xpose throughout the day.
From 9.45am until 5.45pm, a giant mural was erected outside the piazza in front of Bank of Ireland on Dublin's College Green.
People were invited to leave a handprint on the mural to show their support for those affected by homelessness across the country.
A call to action was sent out on social media through the hashtag #Hand4Homelessness.
At 5.45pm the Guinness World Record was broken as over 3,000 handprints were collected on the mural.
The news was announced on TV3's The Seven O'Clock Show.
A guaranteed €6,000 (€2 per handprint) in donations to Focus Ireland has been achieved through the campaign. An adjudicator from Guinness World Records UK presided over the event today to make it official.
Some of TV3’s most popular stars, including Xpose's Glenda Gilson, Karen Koster, Peter O’Riordan, Lisa Cannon and the cast of TV3’s hit soap Red Rock, including Denise McCormack, Cathy Belton, David Crowley, Pandora McCormick, Valerie O’Connor, Adam Weafer, India Mullen, Jack Nolan, Darren Cahill, Roisin O’Donovan and Andrea Irvine were all there to lend a hand today.
For those who couldn’t make it into College Green for the fundraising initiative today, you can show your hand of support by taking a short video or picture showing your unique ‘Hand4Homelessness’ and texting “HAND” to 50300 to donate €2.
