'The Late Late Toy Show' was once again the most-watched TV programme of the year - trumping even huge sporting events and coverage of Storm Emma.

The annual extravaganza, hosted by Ryan Tubridy, drew an audience of 1.5 million to RTÉ One on November 30, according to the latest TAM Ireland/Nielsen ratings.

The episode of 'Room to Improve' featuring Daniel and Majella O'Donnell was the fifth most-watched programme all year.

Key sporting events, including Ireland v England in rugby's Six Nations, Ireland v All Blacks in November, and Croatia's 2-1 triumph over England in the soccer World Cup semi-final, were the second, third, and fourth most-watched.

Virgin Media Television 1 will be celebrating the fact that the Ireland v England clash was the second most-watched programme, drawing 975,000 viewers.

Rounding out the top 10 was coverage of Storm Emma, which saw high winds and heavy snowfall across the country.

RTÉ One and RTÉ2 dominate the list, with 40 of the top 50 programmes.
