Grey's Anatomy have a new firefighter spin-off series on the way.
ABC have given a straight to series order for the news series, which will launch next year.
The untitled drama will centre around "heroic" firefighters in Seattle, with a mix of personal and professional drama.
The lead character is expected to be introduced in an episode of Grey's Anatomy later this year and Deadline reports that characters from the medical drama will cross over to the new series.
ABC Network President Channing Dungey announced the news and revealed that the show will "follow these brave men and women – from captain to new recruit – as they risk their lives and their hearts both in the line of duty and off the clock."
He said, "No one can interweave the jeopardy firefighters face in the line of duty with the drama in their personal lives quite like Shonda [Rhimes], and Grey's' signature Seattle setting is the perfect backdrop for this exciting spin-off."
This isn't the first time a Grey's spin-off has been screened. Kate Walsh's character Addison Montgomery was sent to Los Angeles for the show Private Practice, which ran for six seasons.
Grey's Stacy McKee will write the series and serve as an executive producer, alongside Rhimes and Betsy Beers.
