LAST night's X Factor live show was interrupted by a stage invader, who took to the stage during the performance of eight-piece band the Stereo Kicks.

Viewers first noticed something wrong when the boys began to appear distracted, and looking off to the side of the stage mid way through the song.

The camera then panned out, and revealed a man on stage with the group, singing along and shaking hands with members.

An outraged Simon Cowell was quickly on his feet, before a security man rushed on to the stage to remove the invader.

It was later revealed to be comedian Lee Nelson.

He tweeted last night: "There’s so many of you on the stage, did you even notice someone else had joined you?"

Before adding: "There are so many of them I thought anyone could have a go.

"Really hope the boys keep me on #LeeNelsonForStereoKicks"

It's the second time a stage invader has grabebd headlines on one of Cowell's shows.

Last year a member of one of the bands hired to perform in the background on Britain's Got Talent began to egg Simon Cowell during the show's final.

The judges praised the band's professionalism in carrying on however.

Mel B said: "This is what I wanted you to bring to the stage from day one. Your harmonies were great and you dealt with a stage imposter, it was perfect."

Cheryl Fernandez-Versini  said: "I don’t know how I would have dealt with what you just dealt with. Very professional, congratulations for that."

Simon Cowell added: "Good for you for keeping going, these things happen on live TV. You bounced back from last week. I hope the public keep you in."

While Mayo man Louis Walsh said: "Everyone wants to be in this band now - someone just walked out of the audience onto the stage!"
