'That baby was born ready for its first day at school' - Corrie fans slam 'unrealistic' birth scenes
Coronation Street fans have slammed "unrealistic" scenes from Leanne Battersby's labour
Viewers tuned in on Monday night to see Leanne Batersby unexpectedly go into labour while trapped in a lift with her sister Toyah.
It was supposed to be emotional viewing as it showed Leanne give birth to Steve McDonald's secret love child, just moments after he scattered the ashes of the baby he lost with wife Michelle.
With the help of her sister and nurses outside the broken life doors, Leanne gave birth to her son Oliver in one of the quickest and cleanest births in TV history.
Instead of weeping along with the character, fans of the show jumped on Twitter to slam the show's "farcical" and "unrealistic" birth scene. There was no umbilical cord and baby Oliver looked more like a toddler than a newborn.
"Waters break and with one push out comes a toddler! Wow, what an unrealistic birth," tweeted one.
#Corrie Leanne just had a baby without an umbilical cord— steveCOYS (@harwood_steve) February 20, 2017
I'm not surprised Leanne was always walking like John Wayne look at the size of that baby and delivered with one push! #Corrie— J Patricia (@JPSkalsky) February 21, 2017
#coronationstreet birth scene - no mess, hardly any fuss, no cord, and HUGE baby!! Really! Come on Corrie....— @patchy (@PatchyAmy) February 21, 2017
Love Corrie but Leannes birth scene was ridiculous and deeply flawed! The baby was at least 4 mths old ! So unreal!— Susan rose abbey (@Susanroseabbey1) February 20, 2017
One push, no umbilical cord and the baby's about 3 months old. brilliant #corrie."— Babs O'Shea (@Barbaraoshea7) February 20, 2017
"That baby was born ready for its first day at school," said another.
While one Twitter user added: "F**kin' hell, Leanne has just given birth to a three month old, two foot long baby."
Another commented on the lightning speed of the birth: 'Leanne gave birth to a 3 month old baby like she was shelling a pea."
