Actress Helen George will be one of the contestants on this year’s Strictly Come Dancing, a Telegraph source has revealed.
George, who stars in the hit period hospital drama Call the Midwife, joins broadcasters Katie Derham and Jeremy Vine, actresses Georgia May Foote and Kellie Bright, and celebrity chef Ainsley Harriott, who have all been officially announced.
George, 31, is in fit shape, having run the London Marathon in April, and the fact that her character on Call the Midwife, Trixie, is a keen dancer means that she’s likely to be installed as the new favourite.
We also hear that Gok Wan has signed up to take part on the dancing contest. The 40-year-old fashion guru is best known for his Channel 4 series How to Look Good Naked, and was last seen onscreen in June, filling in for host Phillip Schofield on ITV's breakfast show, This Morning.
Rumours, meanwhile, persist that Sharon Osbourne, the television personality and wife of Black Sabbath frontman Ozzy, will be making a return to prime-time TV. The 62-year-old was a judge on The X Factor from 2004 to 2007.
Strictly Come Dancing returns in September on BBC One.
