The hugely anticipated Late Late Toy Show wasn’t quite so magical for some viewers across the world when the live stream on the RTE Player stopped mid way through.

A small number of ex-pats took to Twitter last night to complain that they could only catch half of the popular show, which was the second biggest trending topic worldwide on Twitter last night.

RTE said the problem was not with its player, but “a compatibility issue, based on the viewers player settings”, adding that it had not received any complaints from users directly.

“Live RTE player stopped working when it ran down the 'Irish time,' so it ended prematurely for us in Switzerland. Shame,” said one viewer on Twitter.

“RTE player broken. Don't account for foreign time on devices?” said another.

Another viewer also claimed that the RTE player often doesn’t work for her when she is in another country, including last night, but was working again this afternoon.

RTE maintained this was an issue viewers' player settings.

“So far as we know, a limited number of users were affected by this, and the issue was most likely caused by viewers having incorrect settings on their players,” a spokeswoman told independent.ie.

“For example, if a viewer had their timer set to a 24-hour clock, it should have been switched to the 12-hour clock.”

RTE said it circulated appropriate setting information prior to the show, and that the @rteplayer technical team were on hand on the night to take care of any issues viewers might have had.

“RTE did circulate advance information for international users to ensure that their settings were compatible with RTE Player and also information on the night itself,” she added.

“The RTE Player team also offered technical assistance that night; anyone who alerted us that this issue was causing them access problems were given the correct information and users were happy with this.”
