Simon Cowell looks to viewers for ideas to boost flagging X Factor

Simon Cowell has been brainstorming with fans for an upcoming theme for The X Factor live shows - after asking for help when he appeared to run out of beer.

The music mogul thanked his Twitter followers for "a lot of good ideas" after asking what their favourite theme for the show in two week's time would be.

Among the suggestions were for the acts to choose songs for each other and to have a week themed around the hits of Phil Collins, who recently announced he is coming out of retirement.

The contestants singing One Direction songs was another popular choice, while one fan suggested the band should be mentors or special judges one week.

Another joked there should be a guest appearance from former contestant Wagner.

Cowell wrote: "Some of the ideas you sent are very funny. And a lot of good ideas. Thanks again. Simon."

Last weekend's reinvention theme came in for criticism when Cowell said he did not like Monica Michael's rendition of Beyonce's Crazy In Love because it had "turned you into something you're not".

Her mentor Rita Ora said: "Well, don't give us this theme, then!"

During his Twitter exchange Cowell also asked where in London he could get a particular brand of beer.

He asked his 12.5 million followers: "Does anyone in London sell Corona light beer. We have run out."

The replies suggested he try an off-licence, while others joked that he might have been better off using a search engine instead of the social networking site.
