Shayne Ward reveals he's playing 'half Irish charmer' in Corrie

From wedding singer to X Factor megastar. Shayne Ward was the shows first success story. A winner with a career that lasts longer than six months is a rare thing and his debut single became the 4th fastest selling single of all time. Two albums followed but by the time of his third album, Obsession, record label Syco had lost all interest.
At the time of his win Shayne Ward was big news and for someone so used to touting his talent up and down the function rooms and working mens clubs of Manchester, Shayne must have thought his £1million recording contract would set him up for good. Not so.
Louis Walsh got the singer, X Factor got the publicity but the actual sum he received for hitting the big time was a paltry £150,000. What Shayne also didn't know at the time was that Jason Orange was considering leaving Take That and Gary Barlow was lining him up as a direct replacement. Sadly for Shayne it never came to pass and he can now be found singing with Foster and Allen.
Chances of a comeback: 3 out of 10

Former X Factor winner Shayne Ward has revealed he has a lot in common with his Coronation Street character Aidan Connor.

Shayne (30) will play the cousin of Rovers barwoman Michelle, played by Kim Marsh.

"If you're being charming and cheeky, like Aidan, then people will like you," he told the Sun.

"He has great family values. We're similar in that he's grown up on an estate and is half-Irish."

Shayne also said he will "refresh" the popular ITV soap, "Shows need refreshing. It's all about new characters."

His arrival comes just before that of former Girls Aloud singer Sarah Harding who has been drafted in to play the wife of Robert Preston, the ex-husband of Tracey Barlow.

Recently actress Alison King, who plays Carla Connor, and Craig Charles, who plays Lloyd Mullaney, have announced they're leaving the soap.
