The fourth season of hit US TV series American Horror Story promises to offer something a little different to Murder House, Asylum and Coven.

Although the producers and cast were present at Comic Con to talk about Coven, some details emerged about the upcoming Freak Show.

Speaking this weekend, executive producer Tim Minear described American Horror Story: Freak Show as "Douglas Sirk meets Zodiac," adding, “It's not like the first three seasons.”

Freak show is set in Jupiter, Florida, in the 1950s and the show of the title is one of the last in the country.

Whilst recurring cast members, and some new faces, attended the panel discussion, they were under orders to keep schtum on details, although some snippets were revealed.

Here are seven things we know:

Recurring star and AHS favourite  Jessica Lange will return as Elsa Mars, a German expat and head of the freak show.

Fargo’s John Carroll Lynch will play the villain who will, according to MInear, rival Rubber Man, Bloody Face, and the Minotaur from previous seasons.  In fact, he’ll “scare the s**t out of you”.  An unofficial leaked call sheet says he’ll be playing a “twisted clown” so people with coulrophobia may have to steer clear.

American Horror Story regular Sarah Paulson plays Siamese twins Bette and Dot.  She won’t wear a prostethic so it looks like some top notch GCI will be employed to render her two-headed as there are 22 people on set every time she shoots.

She said, “"There’s a mystery around what we’re doing, and I want to keep it that way. Right now, a week in, Bette is my favorite character. It’s like Sybil. I should call Sally Field and get some tips."

The fantastic Kathy Bates will play Ethel Darling with Evan Peters starring as her son.

New addition Michael Chiklis takes on the role of strongman Wendell del Toredo, who also happens to be Ethel’s ex-husband and is currently married to Angela Bassett’s character, Desiree Dupree.

Also new to the cast is American Beauty actor Wes Bentley and Finn Wittrock whilst Emma Roberts and Denis O’Hare both return.

American Horror Story: Freak Show is due to air in the US in October.  The first two seasons, Murder House and Aslum are available on Netflix now whilst the third, Coven, will arrive at the end of October.
