Saturday Night Live takes on Paul Manafort, Jeff Sessions, Trump and Pence in shower sketch
Alec Baldwin returned for what seems like his now-weekly appearance on Saturday Night Live for his award-winning turn as US President Donald Trump.
And last night's sketch taking on Paul Manafort, former Trump campaign chairman who was indicted by Special Counsel Robert Mueller last week, didn't hold back. The skit starts off in an office but then moves to a shower, which Baldwin's Trump explains is "to make sure you weren't wearing a wire, Paul.
"That's why we're going to do this 'Gone Girl' style. I have a proposition for you Paul, all I need is for you to go to prison for a very, very, very long time. And in return, I still get to be president, which I hate, but I'm too proud to quit - does that sound fair?"
At which point, vice president Mike Pence, played by Beck Bennett, walks in wearing a suit, which he explains by saying, "Because I'm not married to the water." When Manafort, played by Alex Moffat, asks why he can't just be pardoned, they reveal their "great plan".
"I can't pardon you now, it would look too suspicious. We'll wait a few weeks, dress you up as a turkey, and pardon you then."
Attorney General Jeff Sessions, played by Kate McKinnon, also makes an appearance. "I'm wearing a bathing costume I got from my favourite place: the 1890s," McKinnon's Sessions declares as to why she's clothed . "Plus, I thought we should all get used to wearing stripes."
The most controversial line of the sketch comes in early on when Baldwin's Trump declares: "What an idiot that Harvey Weinstein is. He could have gotten away with all of it if only he got himself elected president."
