When it comes to grilling politicians on her Prime Time slot, there is not much room for RTE star Miriam O’Callaghan to experiment with her wardrobe.

That’s why the glamorous host said she relishes the chance to show an edgier style on her weekend show.

The mum-of-eight can currently be seen on Saturday Night with Miriam, which started its seasonal run in July.

Miriam (56) is known for her sophisticated style and has been turning heads with a string of colourful numbers on this year’s series.

“I have a great stylist and it’s very much along the lines of jump suits and maxi dresses,” Miriam told the Herald.

“I would describe it as chilled, but cool. It’s very different. I definitely don’t wear jump suits on Prime Time. It’s a whole new way of presenting.”

After a busy few months fronting the current affairs programme and then straight into her chat show, Miriam had been hoping to take a late summer break with her family.

“We hope to go to Dingle, and sometimes go to Portugal, but we have no plans as of yet,” she said recently. “We might try to find a late holiday.”

The Dubliner, who is married to media executive Steve Carson, will be back on hard-hitting Prime Time in September.

She described being able to front the flagship current affairs show and then take on her light chat show during the summer months as “perfect”.

“Often in RTE they ask you if you would like to do a different kind of show, but I always say ‘I’m not leaving Prime Time’,” she said.
