Rose of Tralee Elysha Brennan reveals she was 'freaking out and started screaming' when her idol Ryan Tubridy phoned her
Newly crowned Rose of Tralee 2015, Elysha Brennan, has revealed she was "freaking out" when RTE broadcaster Ryan Tubridy phoned her to wish her well in last night's final.
Elysha (22), a medical student from Meath who is studying at the Royal College of Surgeons, was last night crowed the winner of the festival.
She had been interviewed by host Daithi O'Se on Monday night's show and admitted that she was a massive fan of Tubridy, or 'Tubbers' as she affectionately calls him, and the Late Late Show on RTE One.
Tubs' number one fan revealed that all her friends know now to send her text messages between the hours of 9.30pm and 11pm on a Friday night.
Speaking on Breakfast Republic on 2FM this morning Alysha revealed that her idol phoned her on Tuesday morning to wish her well in last night's final.
"Ryan Tubridy rang me off his mobile phone yesterday morning and was just congratulating me," she said.
"He was like, 'Alysha it's Ryan,' and I was like, 'Hi Ryan!'. I was like, Ryan, who is Ryan? It was going through my head and I was panicking, what Ryans do I know? and he said, "It's Tubbers Alysha' so I just started freaking out and screaming."
Referring to her preferred nickname for him, 'Tubbers', she said, "I just think it suits him".
Breakfast Republic presenter Jennifer Maguire asked Alysha where she would go on her first date with Tubridy, and she joked, "The Late Late Show".
Jennifer then added, "You'll have to stop those dirty phonecalls with Tubridy. That'll wear you out!"
Elysha had emerged as an early favourite last week and was 3/1 favourite before the announcement was made last night.
She was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma weeks before her repeat Leaving Cert began but has been in remission for the last two years.
She is the first Meath Rose to win the title and the first representing an Irish county to be crowned Rose in seven years.
