Red Rock cast 'excited' as they prepare for BBC debut
The cast and crew of Red Rock made their big debut on UK television today as the TV3 soap was aired BBC One.
Cast members Sean Mahon (corrupt Sergeant Brian McGonigle) and Cathy Belton (family matriarch Patricia Hennessy) made the trip to London to launch the show.
Its arrival in the UK will open the home-produced drama up to a brand new audience of millions.
Belton admitted she's thrilled Red Rock will be introduced to a host of new viewers.
"It's really exciting and a very proud day. It's exciting to think millions of viewers are going to be introduced to Red Rock," she told the Herald.
"The reviews have been amazing. I think it's going to do good. It's quite different, it's not just a police show, it's a family saga as well," she added.
Pat Kiely, TV3 Group Managing Director, explained the move to BBC shows that the award-winning show "is probably one of Ireland's most successful television exports".
In a statement he said: “This is a huge day for TV3, a huge day for Red Rock, and a huge credit to the production team and the cast behind Red Rock, that the BBC has chosen Red Rock as a key part of its daytime summer schedule.
"Red Rock has now probably become one of Ireland’s most successful television exports.”
Red Rock airs weekdays at 1.45pm on BBC1
