Hilary Clinton was a popular addition to the SNL line-up recently not least because of her pops at rival Republican presidential hopeful Donald Trump.

Now Trump has a chance to counter-attack as he's lined up to host the long running comedy series on November 7.

Trump last hosted SNL in April 2004 and he has not changed much in the intervening 11 years as much of what he said was about Donald Trump and how marvellous he was - back then he was heading up The Apprentice.

"After just one season, I am about to become the highest-paid television personality in America," he said. "And as everyone in this room knows, 'highest-paid' means 'best.'"

Clinton took part in a bar sketch on SNL in which she played bartender Val, who did a very good impression of Trump.

Asked what he thought of her appearance, Trump said, "I thought she did a very nice job.  She did the right thing.  It's a special thing.  It's a great honour.  It's a feature in your cap."

Can Trump do better than this?
