TV3's Anna Daly says Irish viewers are "sick of seeing the same faces every day" so she's vowed to bring some fresh talent to the weekend version of Ireland AM.
Saturday AM kicked off this morning with Anna and Simon Delaney, and for Sunday AM she'll be joined by Ivan Yates.
Laura Woods and Tommy Martin will be the roving reporters for both shows.
"It's a very lazy option to take whoever is great on Ireland AM and use them," she told the Herald.
"I know it's an extension of the show but there's so much other talent out there and we've been screen testing for weeks now, for new stylists, foodies and sommeliers.
"These are all brand new faces that have never been on television before and I think it's very important for a new show to launch fresh talent like that.
"It's a small country and viewers get fed-up looking at the same faces - you've got to give them something fresh," she added.
Speaking of her co-hosts, Anna describes Simon as the "class clown" who will make her laugh but says she'll have to be "on her toes" with Ivan as "he likes to be controversial and push boundaries".
We're used to seeing Simon on everything from The Good Wife to the panto stage and he isn't going to abandon acting any time soon.
"What attracted me to this is the live element, it's very like theatre where you can't go wrong, there's no second takes," he said.
"It's in my contract that if I'm on tour with a show or if a role comes up I can take it and they'll have someone stand in for me.
"It's my career so that was very important to me - TV3 were very accommodating."
Sunday AM is set to be more straight-laced, with detailed analysis of the papers and Ivan says he won't baulk from stirring the pot.
"There is no live TV of a current affairs nature anywhere on Irish television on a Sunday morning," he said.
"There is a little window of opportunity to set the agenda and create news in an uninterrupted way, because there's no conveyor belt.
"It'll be a bit of craic though too and this weekend we've Oliver Callan in," he added.
While he has his foot in the door at Ballymount now, he denies he's out for Vincent Browne's job as was reported last month. "I was taken aback by that story," he said.
"I don't see myself being an absolute anchor in any one job.
"I have no ambition to do any of these things.
"I wouldn't like to just do one job and I like to dabble, so I can flit in and out of different areas.
"I regard media as fickle too - you can be flavour of the month for a while," he added.
The weekend breakfast shows will air every Saturday and Sunday morning from 9am until 12pm on TV3.
