Dublin has once again been transformed into Vicotrian London as filming started on hit TV show Penny Dreadful.

Former pop star Billie Piper plays the part of revived corpse Lily in the drama, which also stars Hollywood heart throb Josh Hartnett and Eva Green.

Dublin Castle yesterday hosted a scene that involved Piper dining with a friend. It was filmed by Yvonne Keating's boyfriend, John Conroy.

Irish actress Sarah Greene and Broadway actress Patti LuPone also appear in the Gothic drama. Several other scenes were shot yesterday morning around Bull Alley.

The critically-acclaimed Showtime programme is now in its third series.

The drama centres around literary characters including Oscar Wilde's creation Dorian Grey and Mary Shelley's Victor Frankenstein.

Robert Louis Stevenson's Dr Henry Jekyll joins the ghoulish line up for the next season.

It is one of the largest TV shows to be produced in Ireland.

The first series alone was worth €33m to the Irish economy. Penny Dreadful is created, written and executive produced by Oscar-nominee John Logan.

The nine episodes will air on Sky Atlantic sometime in 2016.
