Paolo Nutini reckons I'll take his gig, says The Voice hopeful Chris Brady
Engineer Chris Brady hopes that Kian Egan can prove Paolo Nutini right and do the Scottish singer out of a job.
Chris (26) met Nutini while gigging in Cyprus in 2013 and the pair did an impromptu duet of Candy on the street.
When the song finished Paolo had some high praise for the Drogheda native.
"He put his arm around me and said 'Chris you're going to do me out of a job, you've got an amazing voice'," the aspiring musician revealed.
"He was giving me lots of tips," he added and confessed to developing a "major man-crush" on the star.
"I'd probably be more on the softer side like Damien Rice or Ed Sheeran, a bit more mellow but anyone would aspire to be like Paolo Nutini," he commented.
Una Foden, Kian Egan and Rachel Steven's all turned around during his audition.
"The relief of the three chairs turning was amazing," he admitted but he decided to opt for Kian as a mentor.
"Kian has been doing it for three or four years. I thought with his experience he knows what he is talking about," the singer told the Herald.
"I was going in there thinking tactically he has been on the show for four years and he hasn't won. So with the law of averages I was thinking I might just be the one," he joked.
"A lot of people think that Kian was only in Westlife for his looks but he actually does really know what he is talking about.
"I would have been a bit cynical about him too but working with him one-on-one has been great.
"When you're a musician a lot of people can butter you up," he pointed out but said that this is not the case with the Sligo-based former boyband member.
"Kian is a straight talker he knows what he wants and he knows how to get the best out of you," he said.
Chris is out to win this year's RTE competition but he is realistic about what happens next. "It's up to you. They don't guarantee you success."
