'Dancing with the Stars' viewers delivered a knock-out punch to Olympic boxer Michael Carruth after he was the third celebrity to be voted off the RTÉ show.

Despite calls on social media for singing priest Fr Ray Kelly to be given his marching orders, after he scored the lowest marks with 10 points, he was spared.

Carruth scored his highest marks to date with 13 points as he performed the Tango to Spandau Ballet's monster hit 'Gold'. But it wasn't enough to spare him.

Speaking after his elimination, he said the experience was "unbelievable". "I really, really enjoyed myself. It was great," he said.

Asked how he felt about rivals like Fr Kelly staying on the show, he replied: "It's who or what people support and who they vote for so... I thought the judging could have been better for us.

"I felt it was my best dance and Karen thought it was my dance and I thought the scores were too low and some of the pros told me that as well. But listen, it is what it is now."
