New RTE series Taken Down, from creators of Love/Hate, lands international distribution deal
RTE's new drama, Taken Down, which has yet to air in Ireland, has secured an international distribution deal which will see it air worldwide.
Taken Down comes from the creators of Love/Hate and is directed by David Caffrey and written by Stuart Carolan and best-selling novelist Jo Spain.
It stars Lynn Rafferty and Brian Gleeson as well as Orla Fitzgerald and French actress Aissa Maiga and follows the story of a detective investigating the death of a young Nigerian immigrant found close to a Direct Provision centre.
Variety reports that Fremantle, who also distribute The X Factor and American Idol, have bought the rights to sell the series to TV companies at Mipcom, the international TV showcase in Cannes.
Speaking to Variety, Rebecca Dunon, director of international acquisitions at Fremantle, said, "Taken Down is a gripping and authentic drama which highlights the reality of living as a refugee in Ireland today."
She added that it will have “global audiences transfixed with its emotionally charged storyline and complex characters played by an amazing ensemble cast.”
