After years of working her way up in the acting business, Denise McCormack has admitted rejection has become her "best friend".

The Dubliner is best-known for her roles as Linda on Love/Hate and her current portrayal of matriarch Bridget Kiely on TV3's Red Rock.

However, success in front of the camera hasn't come easy for Denise, who revealed she has been told "no" many times.

"Rejection has become a bit of a friend of mine. We're best friends now," she said.

"I wouldn't say I like her that much, though. It's just part and parcel of the job."

Denise, from Drimnagh, has had her fair share of audition horror stories and recalled a recent incident when she forgot her lines in front of a director.

"It's easier when you really click with a script. When you're going in and you're out of your comfort zone, that's when it's difficult. I have messed up loads of times," she said.

"One of the last ones I did, not so long ago, I couldn't get it together. I couldn't remember my lines. I could just see the director looking at me and going, 'Who's this? Where did they get you from, off the street?'

"It can just happen. You just get on with it. I can laugh about it now but at the time it was pretty embarrassing."

Despite being open about her desire to win Dancing With The Stars, Denise bears no hard feelings towards winner Aidan O'Mahony.

"Of course you want to win, you're there to get the prize. On the night I couldn't have done any better so it really didn't matter in the end. Aidan is such a lovely guy, you couldn't be mad at him," she said.

With the second series of the show confirmed, Denise has advised the next crop of celebrities that building a good relationship with their dance partner is key to success.

"It's really about developing a good rapport with your partner and making sure that you understand each other and you're solid on the dance floor," she said.

"You're spending so much time with someone. All the dancers, I'm sure they'll be coming back. They're all gorgeous."
