She may be one of Ireland's most loved broadcasters, but Miriam O'Callaghan's mother reckons her famous daughter should give up her TV career.

The Prime Time host (56) admitted her mum, also called Miriam, wishes she would go back to her former career as a solicitor, where she would no longer be in the public eye.

"My mother, who is in her 80s, keeps hoping one day I will go back to a sensible job. She really does," Miriam told the Herald.

"She goes, 'why did you ever give up that law?'. She's not wild about the exposure."

Speaking at the LauraLynn Heroes Ball at Dublin's Mansion House, the RTE presenter said she has no plans to leave her career at Montrose behind.

"Law is private. You have a good life, a good living and a good income, but I love my job," she said. "I'm incredibly appreciative I have it."
