Make way for Mrs Brown, Ray D’Arcy!

RTE’s primetime chat show front by Ray D’Arcy has been shoved back to a later time slot on Saturday nights to allow for Brendan O’Carroll’s new talk show.

The move is to allow RTE to have joint live simulcast with the BBC for O’Carroll’s new show.

It will mean that D’Arcy’s show will be moved back by a half hour for the next six weeks, starting this Saturday March 25.

Fans of Finglas’ most famous granny can expect a mix of chat and general mayhem as daughter Cathy (Jennifer Gibney) interviews a host of celebrities overseen by the inimitable Agnes Brown (Brendan O’Carroll).

Episode one of O’Carroll’s show will feature supermodel icon Pamela Anderson, Judy Murray, the mum of tennis star Andy, and Louis Walsh. There will be music from James Blunt.

O’Carroll’s show will to out at 9.15pm, with D’Arcy going on at 10.25pm.

The schedule realignment also means that Winning Streak will go out at an earlier time of 7.40pm, compared to its usual 8.30pm slot.

The main evening news will now go out at 8.40pm, compared to 9.30pm.

This will be O’Carroll’s first chat show, following on from his huge success with the sitcom Mrs Brown’s Boys.

Brendan O’Carroll said: 'There's nothing Agnes likes more than getting everyone round to hers for a cup of tea and a chat. We're very proud of our new show and guarantee loads of craic and mayhem. I'm feckin delighted that Irish audiences are going to see it on RTÉ One this weekend.'

RTÉ One Channel Controller Adrian Lynch said: “We're very excited to be All Round to Mrs Brown's on RTÉ One this spring. This hilarious new show delivers even more uproarious laughs as Mrs Brown is let loose on some unwitting celebs. The winning combination of The Ray D'Arcy Show and Mrs Brown on RTÉ One promises to keep viewers entertained every Saturday night.”

But industry insiders maintain it shows the pulling power of O’Carroll, who can make alterations to both the Ray D’Arcy and Winning Streak time slots.
