Miss Great Britain Zara Holland stripped of her title after having sex on Love Island
Love Island's Zara Holland has officially been stripped of her Miss Great Britain title.
The 20-year-old has been labelled a poor role model after having sex with new boy Alex Bowen on the ITV2 show less than 24 hours after he entered the house.
Zara was given the decision to choose between the two new arrivals, Alex and James Khan, for a date in the Hideaway. After she opted for Alex, who had earlier admitted he preferred Olivia Buckland, Zara and Alex began their night in the secluded room.
They were then given the option of returning to the villa or staying in the hideaway, with the pair opting for the latter. Footage from Wednesday night's episode of the programme showed the pair getting intimate, with Miss Great Britain organisers then given the difficult decision of whether or not to rescind Zara's title.
In an official statement on Friday, the organisation announced that Zara is no longer Miss Great Britain and therefore will be replaced by runner-up Deone Robertson in the Miss World competition in Malaysia in December.
"The feedback we have received from pageant insiders and members of the general public is such that we cannot promote Zara as a positive role model moving forward," the statement read.
"We wholly understand that everyone makes mistakes, but Zara, as an ambassador for Miss Great Britain, simply did not uphold the responsibility expected of the title."
After her rash decision to have sex with Alex, Zara was seen in Thursday night's episode expressing regret for her actions.
"You know when you’re in the moment and it just happens," she said. "That’s really not like me at all. Why couldn’t we have just gone to sleep?"
Speaking to housemate Sophie Gradon later, Zara added: "I wouldn’t even do that if I was in a couple with someone. I just feel like everyone’s going to judge me. But look it’s not like me at all, it’s so out of character.
"I’ve never had a one-night stand or anything. Even when I’ve been seeing guys, I don’t just sleep with them on the first night."
Zara received support from Love Island presenter Caroline Flack who tweeted: "Feel even more sorry for Zara now she's been de-crowned. She's a very sweet girl. What even is 'miss GB' ? Are we living in the dark ages?".
