Mentalist Keith Barry hits out at claims his tricks are staged
Mentalist Keith Barry has hit out at claims his tricks are staged with actors and stooges.
Keith, who is currently showing off his impressive skills on TV3 show, You're Back in the Room, said he has no need to use stooges or actors to perform his tricks.
Speaking on Jarlath Regan's Irishman Abroad podcast, he said, "My first TV show was 2003, you wouldn't be in the game this long if you were using stooged and actors and all that kind of stuff, quite honestly the answer is we don't need them.
"We're able to use certain techniques to get people to behave in certain ways. We're able to use certain techniques to make it look like we're reading minds, even though we're not.
"When these things are to some extent amazing or unbelievable, the first thing in someone's head is, because they don't understand it, is 'oh it has to be a set-up', whereas as a matter of fact they're not educated in the techniques that we're using and the reason they're not educated in the techniques is that they're secret, covert techniques that we don't want people knowing how we're doing the stuff."
Barry revealed that Dynamo, Derren Brown and David Blaine are the only three people in the world who fully understand his secrets and how he does what he does, mainly because he writes his own material.
"If you write your own material and perform your own material then nobody can really expose it because if you keep your secrets close to yourself then nobody can really expose you."
As well as his TV3 show, the Waterford illusionist and dad of two recently spent four months working with Woody Harrelson on the big screen feature Now You see Me: Second Act.
