Mel B ‘axed from the X Factor’ – as Louis Walsh’s fate still hangs in the balance
FORMER Spice Girl Mel B has been axed from the next series of the X Factor, according to reports.
The singer ended the last series in controversial fashion, after she missed the first show of the weekend-long final.
It is believed it left a bad taste in the mouth of show bosses, despite what was otherwise a successful series for her.
The Sun reports that bosses at ITV bosses are now actively looking for her replacement.
It is understood that both Simon Cowell and Cheryl Fernandez-Versini will return.
Less certain is the future of Mayo man Louis Walsh.
Cowell and Walsh are very good friends, and the X Factor creator is believed to be pushing Walsh to remain, as his controversial comments have grabbed the show headlines in the past.
However other bosses at ITV are anxious to replace the former Westlife manager, as part of an overall shakeup of the show for the new series.
Dermot O’Leary quit as host last month and has been replaced by former ‘Xtra Factor’ hosts Caroline Flack and Olly Murs.
The show has struggled to keep up with ratings rival ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ over the last number of years – and is undergoing a major overhaul to keep the format fresh.
Several names have already emerged in the running to replace Mel B.
Former judge Tulisa is currently the favourite – she impressed Simon Cowell when she stood in for Mel B on the first show of the final last year, the first time he sat on a panel with her.
Also in the running is Kim Kardashian, however her pay demands may be in excess of the show’s budget.
Former judge Nicole Scherzinger is also being mooted as a potential comeback – it is believed her feisty sense of fun was missing from last year’s series.
